Company
The thesis, stated directly.
Protocol is building the coordinating layer above a security market that is fragmented by discipline rather than by need. This page sets out the reasoning and states plainly what does and does not yet exist.
Thesis
Four propositions.
01
The market is fragmented by discipline, not by need
Buyers purchase cybersecurity, physical security, protective services, and intelligence from separate providers because that is how the industry organized itself, not because their risk divides that way.
02
Integration is the durable position
Individual components are commoditizing. The coordinating layer above them — the shared model of what is protected and who is accountable — is not, and nobody currently occupies it credibly.
03
Services fund the platform
Advisory and program work is engageable today and generates the operating knowledge the product ecosystem needs. The platform is being built from that work rather than ahead of it.
04
Acquisition is a capability strategy
Several capability areas — particularly integration and specialized manufacturing — are held by small, technically capable businesses. Acquiring capability is often faster and lower-risk than building it.

The position
Individual security components are commoditizing. The coordinating layer above them — the shared model of what is protected and who is accountable — is not, and nobody currently occupies it credibly.
